Club Constitution

Constitution and Rules of the Iowa Actuaries Club
(As Amended September 30, 2008)

Article I
The name of the organization is the Iowa Actuaries Club.
Article II
To provide an opportunity for the members to become better acquainted and relate on a social basis; to increase the members' knowledge of actuarial science, and to provide information on current actuarial and general insurance topics, and

To participate in other activities benefiting the actuarial profession.
Article III
Any person who is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries or who has passed one or more of the examinations of the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society or equivalent parts of the examinations of another recognized organization of actuaries is eligible for membership.

Nominees for membership will be presented at any regular Club meeting. Provided a quorum exists, nominees will be approved at that same meeting by a majority vote.

Any member who has become totally disabled, or who has retired, will be considered an honorary member during the period of such disability or retirement.
Article IV
The officers will be a President, Vice President/Program Chairman, and a Secretary/Treasurer. Their duties will be those customary to their respective offices.
Article V
Election of Officers
Officers will be elected at the last regular meeting of the club year. They will take office immediately following that meeting for a term of one club year.
Article VI
The club year begins in September and ends in May. During that period, five regular meetings will be held. The actual dates will be selected by the Program Committee. Meeting expenses will be provided by funds available from the treasury and amounts collected from members attending the meetings.

Special meetings may be called by the President and must be called upon request in writing of not less than ten members.
Article VII
Membership dues will be set annually by the President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer in an amount not to exceed $20 per member. Dues will be set to cover the operating expenses of the club. Honorary members are exempt from these dues. Dues are payable by October 31 of each year.
Article VIII
Ten members of the Club will constitute a quorum at any regular meeting.
Article IX
Amendments to the Constitution must be submitted to the members at a regular meeting. Such amendments will be made effective by affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the members present at any subsequent regular meeting, provided a quorum is present.
